Dying man must serve time for drunken driving
COLUMBUS, Neb. — A 77-year-old man who is terminally ill was sentenced to 180 days in jail for third-offense drunken driving. Lawrence Brandvik, who has cancer, pleaded no contest. A Platte County judge knew about Brandvik's illness but said the law barred him from granting probation.
